We went to a fun "Pumpkin Walk" in Syracuse-the town to the south of us. They must have had 1000 carved pumpkins! Quite a sight to see! Macee especially liked the "Jessie" one since that is what she dressed as for Halloween this year.

We decided to get adventurous the other night. We took the Frontrunner train to SLC (we've done that before) but then we wanted to take the trax train to Gardner Village which is at 7800S. so we got on trax and took it as far as Murray then switched trax and got on the new line headed west. It was great fun and quite an experience.(not nearly like New York's subways but still fun!) It's nice to not worry about parking! Then we headed back to downtown SLC. We went to the LDS Church Museum and then to the Gateway to Clark Planetarium for a quick look around. We spent too much time there to catch the 9pm train back to Roy so we went on the 10pm one. It was a late night but luckily the kids were out of school on fall break.

Scotty has been working hard in Cub Scouts. He earned a lot of the badges (pins) for Webelos and has now earned an Arrow Light. He had fun and enjoyed learning new things. He will be 11 soon and will move in to Boy Scouts!

For Jake's project, he did a clean up of our Stake Church camp( Camp Zarahemla) in Liberty, Utah. It's a big beautiful area but had lots of overgrowth. He had over 30 people come help cut trees, rake up branches, haul logs away, etc...it was a great project!

Macee got a new bike for her birthday. She wanted to go to Lagoon-a-beach, so I took her for a while. Later we had a family party at Fat Cats...we ate pizza and breadstix at the Pizza Factory then we went bowling and did bumper cars. Fun times!

Pioneer TREK!--2011

Mark and I were fortunate enough to go on a Pioneer Trek with our Stake this summer. Roy South Stake took just over 200 young men, young women, and leaders. Jacob and Whitney went as well. It was really an amazing experience to actually walk where the pioneers did. My 4th great grandmother, Kiersten Erickson Benson, was a hand-cart pioneer. It was amazing and inspiring to walk where she did. Such a stong spirit resides in those very places.
We went to Martin's and Dan Jones' coves, Sweetwater River, 6th crossing area, and Rock Creek Hollow(Wyoming). We had rain, wind, thunder, lightning, heat....it was a good experience and we would do it again!

I know...Whitney looks so thrilled...actually later she had a good time!

We were able to go see the Manti Pageant this week for the first time ever. Some folks I know go every year! It was a good production with a great message. Manti city is so friendly and we all want to move there now~ besides that--the Temple is amazing!

Mark and I were fortunate enough to go on a cruise for our 20th anniversary. We went from Miami to the Bahamas. The ship sailed at 5pm and all night we sailed; then we arrived at Coco Cay ( a small island owned by Royal Caribbean)...we stayed all day and sunned and swam and burned! We rented a kayak for a while and that was fun! It is such a beautiful place...the water is so blue! It's amazing! Then we sailed all night again and in the morning we were at Nassau. It also is a beautiful place. We took a sailboat/snorkeling excursion out in the ocean. It was awesome! Our ship is an older one but still seemd HUGE to us. It was fun to explore or just sit by the pool and eat as many ice-cream cones as we wanted!
Then we sailed all night and arrived back in Miami. It was too short! We would have loved to see so much more! But glad we had a chance to see that small corner of paradise in the world!

So Whit comes home from school one day and says...: Mom, Mom, you have to take me to to this big pond so I can run through the water!" It had been raining for days now and we have lots of flooded parks, etc. The area she wanted to go to was actually gated because it was next to the train tracks. So I reminded her about our park down the road. It always has big ponds from flooding and lots of rain. So I drove her there so she could "frolik" as she says through the puddles. It was about 47 degrees....ya..pretty cold to be jumpin in puddles!

I got the IVC filter removed from my vein a bit ago...It had to be pulled out from a hole they made in my juglar vein in my neck....sounds cool HUH! Ya right,...the dumb filter thing was all crooked and caddy-wompus in there that the doc had to wrangle it a bit to get it out. So I have 2 holes....(a vampire bite!)

Wow.....a strange thing happen to me a few weeks ago. I had some lower back pain for about a week..nothing bad...just sore back then Saturday morning the 9th, my left leg started to swell and got really tight....after a few hours we finally decided to go to the ER. They suspected a blood clot in my leg so they did an ultrasound of my leg but found nothing. The doc gave me a shot of lovenox and a coumadin pill and told me to come back in 24hrs for a re-check. I stayed off my feet the rest of the night and all day Sunday till we headed back to the ER around 4pm. By this time my leg looked better but still noticeably swollen and darker in color. They re-did the ultrasound and still couldn't find a clot in my leg. The ER doc was going to send me home taking a strong aspirin everyday but I knew something wasn't right. We told the doc again that my lower back (left side) had been aching all week. He left and made a call to the specialist at interventional radiology. They suggested I get a CT scan of my abdomen area. So I did the scan. The ER doc came back and I knew by the look on his face it wasn't good. He said..well...you DO have a blood clot. It is 22 cm long in the iliac vein in the abdomen. They immediately took me back for a procedure where they put a screen in the vein through the back of my leg. The screen sprays out medicine to dissolve the clot. Also they placed an IVC filter at the top of the clot just below the vena cave to prevent any clots from breaking away and going to my lungs or heart. I have never been attached to so many IVs and monitors in my life! By this time it was after midnight... It was a really long scary night in the hospital and lots more nights to come. Monday the docs checked the clot but it still needed more time to dissolve. In the mean time, I had to lay flat in bed, not bending my left leg and not getting up out of bed. It was horrible. Tuesday the doc took me back to check the clot and it was nearly dissolved. The doc put 2 stents in my vein to keep it open. ( Apparently I have a condition called MayThurner's syndrome where the arteries cross over the iliac veins in the left side of abdomen squishing them) So after that procedure they took the IV out of the back of my leg and I could finally bend my knee and get up....well...I couldn't for a while because I got so light headed and was low on blood. Wednesday my blood was low so the resident doc decided I needed a blood transfusion! So I sat in bed and got a unit of blood. I felt much better later that afternoon and was able to get up and walk around the room a bit. Thursday I was finally able to come home! It was what seemed to be forever in the hospital. I missed my family so much! It was awful! I have had many follow up visits many lovenox shots, and now taking coumadin (blood thinning medication). Hopefully this will prevent any more clots!! FYI...don't take Estrogen unless you have too!
Thanks so much for all the prayers and thoughts for me and my family. Thanks to MARK my husband for being there for me the whole time. He is amazing!

WOW...been a few months since I have updated the blog.....we've had quite a ride these past few months!

Macee had a fun field trip to the Jensen Historical Farm in Wellsville (AKA American West Heritage Center) We traveled back in time to the year 1917! We got a tour and had lunch at the bowry. It was a fun day and thankfully NO RAIN!

I think the Train ride was Macee's favorite part!

Mark forgot to bring the camera for the first pary of the party so we didn't get a pic of Jake blowing out candles.....first they all went to the Boy Scout rope course where they did some activities and a zip line then they ate pizza and cupcakes then they went to the planetarium at the University, then to the pool at the Univeristy for a quick swim, then back to Roy to our house for ice cream cones, then finally off to the movies to see Jake's favorite: How to Train Your Dragon! What a day! lots of fun but Mark and I are exhausted!!

Mark & Jake went with the Venture Scouts on a backpacking trip to theWind River Range in Wyoming. They camped at Shadow Lake and hiked up to 11,000+ feet ranges. Mark said there were lakes everywhere with lots of fish as well! Jake said it was hard at first...the altitude can get to you. They all had a great time though. What a good experience.

What a fun place to go and visit. It's been a while since we went to the Benson Grist Mill and Tooele. Whitney is a litte (A LOT) nostalgic when it comes to Tooele. So when we went to Stansbury to McKay & Andrea's we had to drive by the old house and of course...go to the Mill.

Kids wanted to go camping so bad...so we loaded the suburban as full as it can get and headed up Ogden Canyon. Of course all campgrounds were FULL so we kept trucking up till we reached Monte Cristo area. We found a cozy little area to camp....very primitave but at least a fire pit to cook dinner. So we set up camp and started dinner....While setting up we noticed an enormously HUGE amount of flies about. So many that after dinner we had over a hundred in our tents....Kids were freaking and I can't say that I would like to share a tent with a billion flies either. So we packed up and headed back home! At least My hobo dinner was excellent!! MMMM!

I don't know if you can see all the flies but believe me...they were a plenty! biting ones too!!!

Last week we went downtown Ogden to see an awesome concert and also the horse & hitch parade! Kids thought that was great! The Nashville Tribute Band is so good. We love the TREK and JOSEPH cds. Can't wait for the new Missionary one next year!

The kids wish we had a tree house. So since we don't ---they decided to make hammocks in the tree. They now can be like Peter Pan and the Lost Boys sleeping in the trees!

Kids Safety Fair

There was a Kids Safety Fair at the Weber County fairgrounds this past weekend. I took Jake, Scotty & Macee. They had a lot of things to learn and see. It was great fun! Jake and Scotty got to hold a Burmese Python but I didn't get a pic because Macee made me take her away from the "scary BIG snakes"

I believe that God has a master plan in lives. He moves people in and out of each other's lives and each leaves his or her mark on the other. And you find that you are made up of bits and pieces of those who ever touched your lives and you are more because of it and you would be less if they had not touched you.

Every Tuesday night Rachel co-hosts a radio show at 88.1 Weber FM. It is the radio station for Weber State University. They do a show from 8-10pm where they interview local bands and hear their new music! She's finally found her voice! She does a great job! Thanks Gillis for getting her hooked up!!

Easter/General Conference weekend cont...

The greatest thing about this Easter weekend is that we had the opportunity to listen to General Conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. What great messages we heard and the Spirit of the Lord was felt in abundance.

One of my favorite messages was from President Dieter F. Uchtdorf... he said, " Love is the great motivator for the plan of salvation."

Our beloved prophet President Thomas S. Monson spoke of love and faith.

I know that Jesus Christ is the savior of the world. I'm so glad that I have the gospel in my life. I am so thankful for the blessings of hearing the prophet and apostles of the Lord Jesus Christ in these latter days.

Scotty went on a fun field trip to the Environmental Center which is up in the mountains somewhere by Wolf Mountain..up the Ogden canyon. Mark also went! They learned to cross-country ski and also snow shoe!!! Scotty had a blast and perfect weather!!!

Scotty was "speed skating at the Olympics" and his socks were so slippery that he ran right into the corner of the cabinet in the kitchen. After the bleeding stopped and we took a peek we saw some cuts and a big FAT lip! Poor guy....He was very brave and he didn't get stitches. The day after it looks better, except for the fat lip...might take longer for that to go down.

Not a whole lot going on lately...just keeping busy helping with kids homework, field trips, scouts. etc. I don't have any new pictures. I need to remember to take my camera! Scotty earned his Bear class at the Blue & Gold Cub Scout banquet.

Some wonderful recent news is that the Ogden Temple will be getting a "face-lift"! It will start at the end of the year and take 18-24 months! It will add so much more to our downtown area. Ogden has been slowly transforming back into a great place. Downtown has so much to offer....with a new Megaplex theater, Flo-rider, iFly, climbing wall, Fat Cats, Tree House Museum, so much more! Great places to go for fun! The Temple "make-over" announcememt was a great surprise to all!!! See the story on KSL news. (SEE OTHER POST)

Cub Scout-Pinewood Derby 2010!

The new BSU car and truck and a few of the old ones

Every year Mark gets excited for the Pinewood Derby. Oh yeah..Scotty too. Mark likes to make a car and/or truck for himself as well. This year he went with the great logo of BOISE STATE. (SINCE THEY ARE #1!!!!) He made himself a BSU truck and Scotty's car (Mark cut out, Scotty painted..most of it)

Mark raced a few of his cars from years back because they needed to fill all the tracks. They raced well too. Scotty's "Blue & Orange Bronco" got 2nd place overall. He was happy.

Glad it's over...time to clean the garage again..sweep up the sawdust, put away the paints and save the rest of the tube of graphite for next year!
